Residing next to a park in Amsterdam, I count myself fortunate to have a little animal farm as a neighbor. During my daily walks, I often pass by this lovely spot, where one of my favorite inhabitants are the adorable bird couples. They have become my inspiration for creating my own love birdies, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
In the process of designing these cuties, I discovered a new technique, how to shape their chest. It’s basically the same technique as in making the heel of a sock 😊. While my love birdies don’t belong to a specific species, I aimed to capture the spirit of the birds in my local park by giving them a full crest.
I crafted these charming birds entirely on a 12-peg flower loom, each measuring a petite 6 cm in width and 9 cm in height. For those who like to create your own love birdies for a special someone I’ve made a video tutorial available on my YouTube channel and a pattern that can be found in my Etsy shop. The process is not overly complex, making it accessible to loom knitters of all levels, but it does require a touch of creativity and an eye for detail.
These love birdies are bound to bring a touch of handmade love!
