Crafting comfort: meet Brownie, my loom knitted teddy bear

Brownie’s story began with a request from a friend: could I make small, pocket-sized bears for autistic children? I picked up my loom and started experimenting with shapes and designs, hoping to create something comforting and special.

With so many loom-knitting patterns for teddy bears out there, I thought inspiration would come easily. But designing a bear that felt just right turned out to be more challenging than expected. The first bears I made were specifically crafted for autistic children, tiny and with a heart stitched onto them to offer a sense of comfort and reassurance.

Over time, I refined the design and created Brownie, a slightly larger teddy bear made on a 24-peg loom. This version is easier for other loom knitters to recreate and still carries the same comforting spirit. Brownie is a small, huggable companion designed to bring smiles and warmth.

Create your own teddy bear
Want to loom knit your own litlle teddy bear? I have a pattern available in my Etsy shop. It’s a fun and creative project for all skill levels. Try different yarn colors, add a little hat, or knit a matching scarf.

Each bear has its own unique expression, no two ever turn out exactly the same! Recently, I made Pierre, inspired by French charm and style. This little trooper has gone to bring confort and cuddles to a special girl who needs a friend. It’s amazing how a few small details can give each bear its own personality.
